Third Rail Operation Facilities Test on the Jabodebek LRT crossing Cawang – Dukuh Atas
BEKASI – Third Rail is a method of providing traction electricity for Light Rail Transit (LRT) trains. Third Rail is characterized by additional rails or conductor rails on the rail tracks on the rail's side, top, or middle.
Conductor Rail is usually installed on the outside of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) line and is powered by electricity to provide continuous and stable power intake from the nearest electrical substation. Traction power from the conductor rail to the train is channeled through the Vehicle Collector Shoe, commonly called the Power Shoe.
The Third Rail system is an alternative way to the overhead power cable system that transmits power to the Train via the Pantograph located on the roof of the Train.
The difference between Overhead Line (LAA) and Third Rail is that in LAA, the current is alternating current, commonly called AC. While the Third Rail uses direct current or DC.
A few moments ago, the Railway Infrastructure Testing Team of the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation was assigned to test the Jabodebek LRT Third Rail on the Cawang – Dukuh Atas route.
The parameters that must be considered when testing Third Rail based on the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number 50 of 2018 concerning Technical Requirements for Railway Electrical Installation are:
Vertical or perpendicular distance from bottom to top; The vertical distance between the Third Rail and the voltage receiver is 240 mm with a tolerance of +/- 5 mm.
Horizontal distance from the earth's surface or right to left; The horizontal distance between the Third Rail and the voltage receiver is 53 mm with a tolerance of +/- 5 mm.
The test tool used is JIG. JIG is a tool used to measure vertical and horizontal distances on the Third Rail System.
The results of the tests that have been carried out will be submitted to the Directorate of Railway Infrastructure for further processing of certificate issuance.
