Medan – Joint inspection and evaluation monitoring of state-owned railway facilities (SMN) are two activities carried out by the Railway Maintenance Center Team to monitor railway facilities so that they remain in Ready for Operation (SO) condition.

In February 2024, the Railway Maintenance Center Team carried out joint inspection activities involving teams from the Directorate of State-Owned Facilities, the Railway Maintenance Center, and the Medan Class I Railway Engineering Center, on Friday (16/2/2024) in Medan.

Inspections were carried out on 10 open carriage units with facility numbers GB 35 16 01 - GB 35 16 10.

The Railway Maintenance Center Team was present, Head of the Periodic Maintenance Section Udut Pangihutan Sinaga, along with several Periodic Maintenance Section staff. In carrying out tasks, the team involves relevant stakeholders. This shows comprehensive involvement from various parties in maintaining the quality and safety of state-owned facilities after they are lent to third parties.

Open Carriage Facility GB 35 16 01 - GB 35 16 10 was previously used by work partners for one day, from 20 to 30 January 2024 to load dilute ballast from Bamban Station to Rantau Prapat Station.

This loan marks the importance of cooperation between the private sector and the government in using state-owned railway transportation infrastructure.

One of the main focuses in this joint inspection is checking braking using a compressor. The minimum pressure requirement used is 8 bar. This standard is established to ensure optimal braking function on open rolling stock.

Effective braking is a crucial factor in maintaining operational safety of state-owned facilities, especially when transporting goods of varying weights and volumes.

Apart from checking braking, the team also carried out a thorough inspection of the overall condition of the open carriage facilities. The involvement of various parties in this activity reflects the strong synergy between the public and private sectors in maintaining the safety and reliability of rail transportation.
