Railway Safety Socialisation and Promotion at CFD Surakarta: Raising Public Awareness through the ‘BERTEMAN’ Campaign
In order to raise public awareness about safety at railway crossings, the Railway Engineering Center Class I Semarang held a railway safety socialisation and promotion activity at the Car Free Day (CFD) event in Surakarta City. The theme of this activity is "BERTEMAN" (stop, look left-right, safe, and walk/berhenti, tengok kiri-kanan, aman, dan jalan), which is a key message in the effort to minimise accidents at level crossings.
The activity started at 06:00 WIB with morning exercise, which was attended by employees from the Class I Semarang Railway Engineering Centre and the surrounding community. This morning exercise is a refreshing opening event and involves the active participation of various community members.
After the gymnastics, the event continued with a talk show on safety at level crossings, featuring several speakers, including
- Head of Railway Facilities and Safety Section of BTP Semarang
- Representative of Central Java Provincial Transportation Office
- Representative of Surakarta City Transportation Office
- Coordinator of Surakarta Service Unit (Korsatpel)
The talk show highlighted various important aspects related to safety at level crossings, ranging from safety regulations, how to cross the crossing safely, to community education campaigns. In the talk show, it was explained that the "BERTEMAN" socialisation aims to provide practical guidance to road users on the steps to be taken when crossing level crossings, namely
- Stop before the crossing
- Look left and right to make sure no train is passing
- Make sure the situation is safe, and then
- Proceed with caution
Tonggam Ferdinand, Section Head of Railway Facilities and Safety at BTP Semarang, stated, "This safety socialisation with the theme "BERTEMAN" is part of our commitment to continuing to educate the public about the importance of safety at railway level crossings." By implementing these simple steps, we can jointly reduce the risk of accidents at railway crossings.’
In addition to the talk show, this activity was also interspersed with various interactive games and quizzes that attracted the public's attention. With a fun format, the public was invited to better understand the importance of safety at level crossings, and participants who successfully answered the questions correctly received attractive prizes.
The enthusiasm of the community in participating in this series of activities was very high, especially during the talk show, which provided new information on how to act safely at railway crossings. With this activity, it is hoped that the theme ‘BERTEMAN’ can become a guideline for the community in their every interaction with level crossings, so that the potential for accidents can be minimised.
