Railway Engineering Centre in Padang Builds Storage for State-Owned Assets

Padang—Padang Class II Railway Technology Centre (BTP Padang) is currently constructing a storage facility for government assets at the Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) station area, Padang Pariaman Regency. This facility will be used to store various railway assets.

"As targeted, this government asset storage facility will be completed this year and will be ready to store various railway assets such as railway sleepers or steel rails," said Endang Setiawan, Head of BTP Padang, in his statement.

The storage facility, which will be built using State Sukuk (Sukuk Negara) or SBSN funds starting in 2022, will also include a locomotive shed, which will be used to store state-owned locomotives in the future.

Currently in West Sumatra, BTP Padang, as an extension of the Directorate General of Railways (DJKA), Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, is working with PT KAI (Persero) Divre II, the sole railway operator, to develop the railway sector in the Minangkabau region.

"With the existence of this locomotive depot, when DJKA eventually has its own locomotives, they will be stored here. We remain optimistic about the progress of the railway in West Sumatra," he said.
