A station close to Padang beach

Padang - Of the various stations in Padang, Stasiun Pulau Aie stands out as one of the most strategically located, right in the heart of the city and close to various tourist destinations, especially in Padang City.

Located in Pasa Gadang, Padang Selatan, this station serves as the last stop before reaching Stasiun Muaro, which is still not in operation. Stasiun Pulau Aie is located in the Kota Tua area, a historic district that has become a popular photo destination, especially among young people. The area is full of Dutch colonial buildings that evoke a sense of nostalgia and the past.

Visitors to the station can explore a variety of local food and drink stalls that serve both Padang's famous culinary delights and trendy snacks. A short walk towards Batang Arau takes you to the iconic Jembatan Siti Nurbaya bridge. And just 2-3 kilometers from the station, you'll find Pantai Padang, one of the city's most popular tourist destinations.

This Class I station is served by the Minangkabau Ekspres train, which operates between the Minangkabau International Airport Station and Stasiun Pulau Aie (round trip), with affordable ticket prices starting at just Rp 10.000 for a one-way trip.

For your information, Stasiun Pulau Aie, which has two straight tracks, was reactivated by the Class II Railway Engineering Centre Padang and resumed operations on 10 February 2021 after being dormant for 44 years since 1977.

The station has historical significance as the first station built by the Dutch colonial government, officially opened on 1 July 1891. Due to its cultural significance, the station has been declared a cultural heritage site by the Padang City Government's Cultural Heritage Preservation Office. Heading southwest from Stasiun Pulau Aie, Stasiun Muaro is only about two kilometers away.
