Now, the Railway Bridge Can Withstand Loads of Up to 18 Tons

Padang—The Class II Railway Technical Center (BTP) Padang, under the Directorate General of Railways, Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, always strives to provide the best service to the public, especially within its working area of West Sumatra. To achieve this, infrastructure improvements in the railway sector are continuously being made, including replacing railway bridges.

After previously upgrading bridges in several areas across West Sumatra, this time, the improvement was carried out on the recently completed BH 08 KM 2+772 bridge between Bukit Putus and Padang.
This process involved replacing the old bridge's substructure and superstructure with a new structure. The goal was to make the bridge more capable of handling train axle loads.

"Previously, the bridge could only handle an axle load of 9 tons with limited clearance and was only accessible by BB-type locomotives. After the infrastructure upgrade, the bridge can now withstand axle loads of up to 18 tons and can accommodate CC-type locomotives," said Hendrialdi, Head of BTP Padang, in his statement.

As part of its role as a railway regulator, this railway bridge was upgraded to ensure passenger and cargo safety by lowering the risk of accidents and infrastructure damage. It also intends to improve passenger comfort, provide better service, and enable trains to travel faster than before.

"I expect BTP Padang can always provide the best service to the people of West Sumatra," Hendrialdi added.
