Mak Itam, A Favourite of The Railway Enthusiast Community

Padang - The Padang Class II Railway Engineering Centre recently supported the operation of the Mak Itam steam train with 13 members of the Indonesian Railway Preservation Society.

The Mak Itam journey started from Sawahlunto station to Muaro Kalaban station and stopped at the longest railway tunnel in Sumatra, the Lubang Kalam tunnel, which is about 828 metres long.

One of the members said it was a new experience for him to try the UNESCO World Heritage railway line with the only tourist steam train in Sumatra, the third steam train after Ambarawa and Jeladara.

This is a different experience as it passes through Lubang Kalam, which is almost 1 kilometre long, and its history, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. We stopped briefly to capture the moment,' said one of the passengers.

All the members of the railway enthusiasts said they were happy with their experience this time. This is our first experience of Sawahlunto. It certainly gives its own impression, especially when we also enter the museum, which gives us more information about railways in West Sumatra,' he said.
