A Closer Look at The Padang Railway Engineering Centre

Padang - As the railway regulator in West Sumatra, the name of the Class II Padang Railway Engineering Centre, or commonly abbreviated as BTP Padang, is not yet widely known to the people of West Sumatra itself. Nevertheless, BTP Padang continues to carry out its duties and functions as an extension of the Directorate General of Railways, Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia.

Established in 2015, BTP Padang is headed by a hall director, currently held by Mr. Endang Setiawan, who supervises three work units, namely the head of the administration subdivision, Mrs. Aslinawani Sirait, the head of the infrastructure section, Mr. Bernadi Armisetyo, and the head of the traffic, facilities, and safety section, Mr. Taufik Erfin. In addition, BTP Padang also has three Service Unit Coordinators to assist the Balai in some of its work areas, namely Pariaman, Padang Panjang, and Sawahlunto areas.  

In accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation No. PM 36/2022 on the Organization and Work Procedures of the Railway Engineering Centre to become the Padang Class II Railway Engineering Centre, BTP Padang is tasked to carry out the improvement, development, management, maintenance, utilisation of railway infrastructure, and supervision of the implementation of railway facilities and safety.

As the owner of railway assets, BTP Padang must improve, develop, manage, maintain, and utilise the railway infrastructure in West Sumatra, which includes lines, stations, and railway operating facilities, to the best of its ability.

Unlike the railway regulator in West Sumatra, namely PT KAI (Persero) Divre II West Sumatra, BTP Padang is a government agency that takes care of the railway infrastructure. While the operator runs the railway facilities," said BTP Padang Head Endang Setiawan.
