BTP Padang Improves Duku and Pasar Usang Level Crossings Ahead of Eid Travelers

Padang — Recently, the Balai Teknik Perkeretaapian (BTP) Kelas II Padang conducted repairs on two busy level crossings in Duku and Pasar Usang, Padang Pariaman Regency, to prepare for the influx of travelers heading in and out of Padang during the Eid holidays.

The joint effort with the Balai Pelaksana Jalan Nasional (BPJN) of Sumatera Barat was aimed at reducing the frequent traffic congestion that occurs on JPL 30a KM 31+045 between Stasiun Duku and Stasiun Pasar Usang, as well as on JPL 01 KM 0+464 between Stasiun Duku and Stasiun Bandara Internasional Minangkabau.

"Previously, these two crossings were prone to congestion due to the damaged asphalt, which created deep potholes, forcing vehicles to slow down as they passed through," explained Endang Setiawan, Head of BTP Padang, in his statement.

He added that the recent flooding in Sumbar further worsened the situation, making the crossings even more hazardous, particularly for motorcyclists, as the potholes became hidden underwater.

"Additionally, the crossing in Duku has a significant elevation, so vehicles must reduce speed. Moreover, as a national road, the Duku crossing area is not very wide. That's why we're also expanding the road in collaboration with BPJN Sumbar and adjusting the level crossing barriers," he continued.

Endang Setiawan expects that the improvements and infrastructure upgrades will ease congestion and make traveling smoother for the public, especially during the peak holiday season.

"With these enhancements, we hope travelers will have a safer, more comfortable journey, and that the traffic flow at the crossings will improve," he concluded.
