Bekasi, 9 September 2023. In order to raise awareness of the importance of safety in driving, the Ministry of Transportation, Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) held a Safety Riding Socialization Show at LRT City Bekasi Jatimulya Station. This activity was carried out as an effort to transfer the knowledge of good and safe driving by presenting competent speakers.

Also attending the Safety Riding Show Socialization activity were the Bekasi Mayor Representative, Head of the Bekasi Regency Transportation Office, Kakorlantas Polri, Director of Railway Safety, BPTJ Traffic Director, BPTJ Infrastructure Director, BPTJ Transportation Director, DJPO Secretary, Jabodebek LRT Division Head, Bekasi City Police Chief, BPTJ Section Heads, and Sub-Directorate Heads within BPTJ.

The Safety Riding Show Socialization activity with the theme SEJALAN (Selamat di Perjalanan, Selamat Sampai Tujuan) raised the important role of Jabodebek LRT in reducing the number of accidents. Because the existence of LRT can make private vehicle drivers move to public transportation. So it is expected to help reduce the number of vehicles and the risk of accidents.

LRT stands for Light Rail Transit or Lintas Rel Terpadu which means it is one of the passenger railroad systems operating in urban areas whose construction is light and can run with other traffic or on a special track. LRT was built to invite people to switch modes of transportation from private vehicles to using LRT so that it is expected to unravel the current congestion. It is also expected to reduce air pollution.

The event began with remarks from the chairman of the organizing committee and continued with a presentation by the speakers. Director of Railway Safety, Erni Basri, who was one of the speakers, said that before the operation of the LRT, testing of railroad facilities and infrastructure, certification of Railway Human Resources, and safety assessment. Furthermore, during the operation, the government participated in supervising the operation, among others, through periodic testing, audits, inspections, monitoring and evaluation, and other activities aimed at ensuring the safety of LRT operations.

The event continued with the socialization of safety riding to the community through safety riding practices from Korlantas Polri instructors who explained the use of driving safety equipment and gave direct examples of how to drive properly. 

The socialization activities were also enlivened with coloring competitions for children. This was done as an event to introduce LRT to children and their mothers. There was also a discussion with the speakers.

Through this activity, it is hoped that it can become a momentum to remind each other to always prioritize safety in traffic and switch to using public transportation and reduce the impact of road accidents. (MJ)
