Enhancing Feeder Service, BPKARSS Socializes LRT Feeder for Corridor 6 RSUD-Sukawinatan Route

Palembang – The socialization event for the operation of the LRT (Light Rail Transit) feeder service on Corridor 6, with the RSUD-Sukawinatan route, was successfully held on Friday, 1 November 2024. The event took place at the Sukajaya Village Office and was attended by various stakeholders as well as local residents who eagerly welcomed this new transportation innovation.

During the event, Mr. Aditya Yunianto, a representative from the South Sumatra Light Rail Transit (LRT) Management Office, provided a detailed presentation on the function, benefits, and operational system of the LRT feeder service. Representatives from the Palembang City Transportation Agency, the South Sumatra Regional Land Transportation Management Office, and the feeder operator, PT. Transportasi Global Mandiri, all attended the event. The Head of Sukajaya Village in Palembang was also present to show full support for the program.

In his speech, Aditya Yunianto explained that the feeder service aims to improve accessibility for residents from various areas to the South Sumatra LRT stations. "This LRT feeder will help make it easier for people to reach the stations with affordable fares and efficient travel times. It is part of our effort to integrate modes of public transportation in Palembang, making it more user-friendly," he said.

Support from Stakeholders

A representative from the Palembang City Transportation Agency emphasized that the introduction of the LRT feeder line is expected to reduce the use of private vehicles, which contribute to traffic congestion, especially in urban areas. With the RSUD-Sukawinatan route, residents in these areas now have a more practical alternative transportation option.

"This is part of our ongoing efforts to develop an efficient, affordable, and integrated public transportation system. We hope that people will take advantage of this service to support their daily activities," said a representative from the Transportation Agency.

The feeder operator, PT. Transportasi Global Mandiri, has also reiterated its commitment to providing a comfortable and safe service to the community. The feeder fleet will operate on schedules aligned with LRT departures, ensuring a smooth connection between modes of transportation.

Community Enthusiasm

The event was attended by dozens of residents from the Sukajaya and Sukawinatan areas, who actively asked questions and provided input regarding the route and operational schedules of the feeder service. Most of the residents expressed their satisfaction, as the introduction of the feeder service greatly helps them access the LRT stations without needing to use private vehicles.

"Until now, we have struggled to find transportation to the LRT station. Having this feeder service is certainly a big help, especially for those of us who work in the city center," said Yanti, one of the residents of Sukajaya.

In addition to making transportation more accessible, the feeder service is expected to encourage more people to use public transportation. As a result, passengers will benefit as well as the environment, as vehicle emissions may be reduced.

Future Development Plans

During the interactive discussion, some residents suggested that the feeder's operational hours be extended into the evening to accommodate passengers who return home after work. Furthermore, residents hoped that the feeder service would be extended beyond the RSUD-Sukawinatan route to other strategic locations.

In response to these suggestions, the organizers mentioned that further development will be based on operational evaluations in the future. This socialization event is considered the first step to ensure that all parties understand the benefits and mechanisms of the LRT feeder service.

Through this event, the government and related stakeholders demonstrated their strong commitment to building a modern and inclusive public transportation system. The introduction of the LRT feeder on Corridor 6 is a tangible effort to improve the quality of life for residents and support sustainable urban development in Palembang.

In a closing statement, the Head of Plaju Darat Village thanked everyone involved and encouraged the community to support the program. "Let’s make good use of this facility for the smooth mobility of us all," he said.
