The Directorate General of Railways Issues SOP for Inventory Management of Railway Tracks

Jakarta (7/11) – In an effort to realize transportation connectivity via rail, the Directorate General of Railways (Ditjen Perkeretaapian) has been massively constructing railway infrastructure every year. To meet the needs of this infrastructure development, railway facilities such as rails, ties, switches, and ballast have been purchased domestically and internationally. These procured items are then distributed to various Infrastructure Development Work Units (Satker) within the Railway Engineering Centers (Balai Teknik Perkeretaapian). Therefore, the management of railway infrastructure inventory is a crucial issue for the sustainability of railway asset development.

To ensure accurate and accountable inventory management, the Finance Division of the Secretariat of Ditjen Perkeretaapian developed a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for managing the inventory of railway tracks, which has been ratified by the Director General of Railways through the Decree of the Director General of Railways No. KP-DJKA 206 of 2024 regarding the Ratification of the SOP for Managing Inventory of Railway Tracks within the Directorate Genera. This SOP is intended to serve as a reference for both internal and external stakeholders. The SOP covers the entry and exit transactions of rails and the supporting document formats, which include: 1) Warehouse Card Document; 2) Receipt Document; and 3) Goods Issue Document. This SOP will be implemented at the Office(Balai)/Working unit (Satker) under the Directorate General of Railways.

Furthermore, the distribution of rail inventory will be documented and monitored using the Inventory Monitoring System (SIMONBAPER), which is currently in development. This application will eventually be linked to Ditjen Perkeretaapian's internal portal, allowing the Director General, Secretary General, Director of Infrastructure, and the DJKA Finance Division to monitor rail distribution to each Railway Engineering Center in real time.
