South Sumatra LRT Relaunched Student Card Responds to Students' Need for Public Transportation

To support the mobility of students in the South Sumatra region, the South Sumatra Light Rail Transit (LRT) Service has relaunched the student card. This step was taken in response to the high interest from students using LRT services for travel.

The launch of the student card was positively received by many people, especially students and their parents. The student card is expected to provide convenience and benefits to students in accessing public transportation, especially the LRT, which has become one of the main mobility options in Palembang city and its surrounding areas.

Based on data from the Utilization of Facilities and Infrastructure of the South Sumatra Light Railway Management Center (BPKARSS) as the LRT manager, there are 59 student cards left. "The provision of student cards is certainly done with an assessment based on the intensity of going to and from school by students. How often does he use the South Sumatra LRT," he said. The students, he said, could only get the card at the Dishub station.

This move is seen as a positive step because there are many students who need student cards. Based on data in 2023, as many as 17.2 percent of LRT users in South Sumatra were students. Naura Nadrah, for example. The student of SDN 132 Palembang admitted that she often uses the South Sumatra LRT.

She usually stops at Bumi Sriwijaya station. "With this card, it can be quite helpful. It's quite cheap," the 12-year-old said. Still, he hopes the number of student cards will continue to increase to accommodate the many students in Palembang. "Yes, hopefully the South Sumatra LRT can be even better in the future," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of Utilization of BPKARSS Facilities and Infrastructure said that they are constantly trying to increase the production capacity of student cards to meet more demand. "We need a lot of time and effort. We hope the public can be patient and understand this situation," he added.

Hopefully, with these steps, the problem of limited student cards can be solved soon so that students in South Sumatra can maximize public transportation services provided by South Sumatra LRT.
